Visit to Puñihuil Penguin Colony & Ancud during drive to Chiloé Hotel from Puerto Montt
After being picked up from the airport in Puerto Montt, drive about forty-five minutes south in order to take the local ferry across the Chaco Channel to Chiloé Island. After a short drive you’ll reach the fisherman’s town of Ancud where you can visit the local fish and craft market. Continue on along the coast to the Puñihuil Penguin Colony, the only shared nesting site of both Magellanic and Humboldt penguins. Mid-September to mid-March is the nesting season of the penguins when you will be able to see these beautiful animals. Take a half hour navigation around small islands where the penguins nest.
