Good location, large room with view over Ganges. Furnishings aged and worn, bath/shower flooded bathroom ever time we used it. Mouse in restaurant. disappointed that we did not know it was 'dry'. We would have looked at other hotels had we known they did not serve alcohol.

The room was a bit small but very good. Once again the people make the hotel/tour/trip and everyone here could not do enough for us.

The location of the Suryauday Haveli in Varanasi was superb. Catching a boat back to the hotel after the Ganga Aarti and the morning ceremony was memorable. Val’s single room was so much larger than our double, and they were very slow in responding to requests (e.g. four requests for a plug for the bathroom basin, and a half hour delay for our bill at dinner, only to find it had been sitting at their counter for 2 minutes). Although we are not vegetarian and enjoy wine with out meal, we found the food was very good and this was certainly not a problem. However, these are minor issues and we would certainly happily stay there again if we visited Varanasi. ... Read More

We only had one night, which was just right for our stay - we enjoyed the calm professional approach, dinner arrangements, our room, and views from the roof.

Especially given the setting in the old city, while not a luxury property of course, we are very glad we were there rather than at one of the more western hotels in the newer city.

Our room looked out over the Ganga River - wow! One had to find one's way through small alleys to get to it, so we never felt able to leave it for a meal elsewhere. Food was fine, but we were a little trapped. So a big high with that reservation.Enjoyed live music at dinner. ... Read More

Great position but room facilities and restaurant were not up to standards of other hotels. Access via lanes was a little difficult arriving as we did after sunset.

After Lavina warned that it was not a modern venue I expected an average hotel, but it was very comfortable.

We loved it but the walk down dark alleys at night could be considered discouraging. We loved having the Ganges view

WE were aware that this hotel was different to most others we were to stay in. It was comfortable and right on the Ganges was very interesting. breakfast was good however, the main dinner was ordinary and not to our taste. Overall a good choice due to location to the river and being part of the old town which was fascinating. Enjoyed the guided tours. ... Read More

Location, location! We had a room overlooking the Ganges so as soon as we woke up we had a picture perfect view. I loved Varanasi - one of my favorites. Hotel was lovely small the way we like it, sensational food!

I would describe this place as very authentic and a little bit 'spartan' - it had the bare necessities. In a way, being in Varanasi around all the spirituality, I felt it was a decent amount of comfort as too much luxury would have felt out of place. The hotel was clean and a nice reprieve from Varanasi itself. Having a room looking out on the Ganges added to the experience. I would recommend this place to others. ... Read More

Future guests should be advised that, out of respect to its location on the Ganges, the Haveli is vegetarian and does not serve alcohol. It did not bother us, but it would have been good to know
