Dive into the history of the Romanov Tsars! Your private audience with the magnificent buildings of St Petersburg begins with a guided walkthrough of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. Commissioned by Tsar Alexander III on the spot where his father Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881, this edifice took over 25 years to build. As you walk between its hallowed walls, marvel at the intricate mosaic work that contributed to the building’s total cost of 4.5 million rubles. The focal point of the church is the shrine, built over the very spot the Emperor was assassinated, embellished with semi-precious stones like topaz and laurite. Next, make your way to St Isaac’s Cathedral in downtown St Petersburg, with its beautiful gilded dome, the cupola of which is often visible from miles away. An imposing structure, with red granite columns that weigh 80 tons each, the cathedral contains many elaborate mosaics and pieces of art. Steeped in the rich history of the Romanov dynasty, the cathedral’s secrets are revealed by your knowledgeable guide.
