Mahé Discovery Tour – Highlights of Mahe
Discover of one of the smallest capital cities of the world, Victoria, on this leisurely private guided tour. Following breakfast at your hotel, set off for the city center with its busy marketplace, in the company of your local guide. Explore the bustling wet markets with their fresh produce, seafood and spices, and the colorful stalls full of local crafts and artefacts. Drop by the clock tower and court house, before visiting the century old Botanical Gardens with its wide display of exotic plant life. Go over to the island’s first school built in the 19th century by the Church Missionary for the children of freed slaves. After a long morning, enjoy a delicious Créole lunch at a local restaurant. Relax by the seaside after your sumptuous luncheon. Go for a swim or laze by the beach. Drive back to your hotel, but not before enjoying the gorgeous view of Eden Marina along the way. Embark on an exciting private cruise aboard a crewed charter catamaran from The Moorings, armed with your own captain, gourmet chef, and watersports facilities onboard! Day 01: Following a welcome drink on the fly deck, get acquainted with the cabins on your floating home for the next few days. Head to Sainte Anne Marine National Park, spread across six coral islands situated off the coast of Mahé. Learn about this former WWII naval base and the island’s whaling history. See seagrass, endemic species of mosses and lichens, and a variety of coastal shrubs, all complementing the turquoise blue waters around. You might come across green and hawksbill turtles wandering about. Snorkeling over the colorful coral reefs replete with fascinating marine life, expect to spot bottlenose dolphins, pipefish, eagle rays and more. Swim in the natural plunge pools, and taste fresh Creole seafood specialties at the restaurants on Moyenne Island. Day 02: Spend this day at Cousine Island, a sea and island reserve accessible only by small boat. Explore this former coconut plantation that has transformed into an exotic ecosystem of lush mangroves and freshwater swamps. Originally created to protect the Seychelles warbler, the island is now home to several bird colonies, especially sunbirds and songbirds. Spot bulbuls, fruit pigeons, and black parrots among other rare birdlife here. Retire for the night while anchored at Anse Lazio, Praslin or Curieuse. Day 03: Rise and shine early to visit Curieuse Island just northwest of Praslin. Ushered by rows of ornamental Coco de Mer palms, notice the characteristic red-colored soil. Amble on the boardwalk passing by several species of mangroves that are breeding grounds for the giant Aldabra tortoises. You can swim with giant lump-head parrotfish at Laraie Bay. Gain some insights into Curieuse Island’s former leper colony during your visit to the historical museum at the Doctor’s House. Next, sail to Coco Island nearby and enjoy an afternoon of snorkeling at the Île Cocos Marine National Park. Retire overnight at Praslin. Day 04: Explore the sumptuous surrounds of Praslin’s tropical forests and beachside hills. Experience exotic fauna and rare birdlife at the delightful Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, considered to be the original Garden of Eden. Laze about in Anse Lazio, which regularly tops the list of the world’s best beaches, or tee off at an 18-hole championship golf course with breathtaking views. By midday, set out for the private Grand Souer Island, part of the Sister Islands, which offers a limited number of day guests. Bask in the sun on silky beaches fringed by lofty palms and granite boulders, or snorkel and scuba dive among the coral reefs. Day 05: Hit the spectacular coastline of La Digue, and explore the lively island on bicycle, ox-carts or horseback. Stroll about in the Veuve Nature Reserve to spot the endemic Seychelles paradise flycatcher. Visit Anse Source D’Argent, the world’s most photographed beach, and hike up jungle-covered hills to enjoy panoramic vistas of Seychelles from Bellevue and Nid d’Aigle viewpoints. Soak in the colonial charm in town, and spend time browsing the cozy boutiques and people watching. Settle down with tropical sundowner drinks, and savor local Creole cuisine at the eateries. Enjoy stunning sunsets over champagne toasts as you cruise the waters around. On your final day, reminisce your time here in paradise while returning to Eden Island, Mahé.
