Antarctica

5 Days

By far the most exotic vacation destination around the world you would ever visit, a  spectacularly white landscape of snow, icebergs, and glaciers, iconic wildlife of whales, seals and penguins, await you in Antarctica.

Included Activities

Classic Antarctica Air Cruise (8 Days/7 Nights) – Part II
Day 2: Begin your second day by hopping onto an early morning flight from Punta Arenas, over Cape Horn, to skip the choppy waters of the Drake Passage. Two hours later, arrive into Chile’s Frei Station on King George Island (part of South Shetland Islands), your first port of call in the Antarctica region. Amble on this almost Mars-like landscape peppered with brightly-colored residences, research stations, and rusty machinery. Nibbling on refreshments, walk down to the shore and board a Zodiac to reach your expedition ship anchored in the distance. Check into your accommodation, freshen up, and gather for lunch as the ship sets sail. After a brief shore landing, sit down for one of several informative lectures that will follow over the next few days. Next, you can head to the bow, the bridge, or the glass-enclosed observation lounge to admire the dramatic landscape around. As night falls, enjoy your first dinner onboard and then it’s lights out!
Day 3 – 6: Experience Antarctica’s many wonders as you traverse its western fringes. Between daily excursions, relax at the sauna, sit back to enjoy the passing scenery, and savor gourmet meals onboard, complemented by periodic entertainment. Take time to socialize with fellow travelers, sharing notes, and bonding over drinks and conversations. Learn about Antarctica’s fascinating history, flora, and fauna during interactive presentations and engaging lectures courtesy of passionate polar naturalists. During shore landings, Zodiac cruises, and kayaking trips, experience the best of what Antarctica has to offer while accompanied by expert polar guides. Expect to see myriad species of native wildlife, marine life, and birdlife. You might encounter penguins waddling about in their large rookeries, seals lazing on rocky shores, seabirds scavenging about, and whales making delightful appearances. At every stop, you may hike on volcanic cobbles and snow terrain to cherish the variety of vantages across Antarctica. Spot the indigenous vegetation that grows here including Antarctic hair grass, pearlworts, and the rare mosses and lichens. Taking a dip in the region’s hot springs is also on the cards. Each expedition is unique, and your itinerary is dependent on the weather and what nature has in store for you. Explore Deception Island – an active polar volcano and flooded caldera with dark-colored rocks, patterned inner walls thanks to volcanic ash, and Baily Head’s monochromatic landscape. As you navigate Whalers Bay, notice remains of abandoned whaling stations amid these beautiful surroundings. Stroll on the black sand shores and the scenic hillslopes, gazing into, possibly, the largest rookery of chinstrap penguins in the world! Get up close to huge colonies of gentoo penguins at Cuverville Island, embraced by lofty peaks of the Antarctica mainland. Next, marvel at the stunning beauty of Lemaire Channel, also known as Kodak Alley – a narrow seven-mile-long stretch flanked by snow-capped mountains of the neighboring archipelago. Soak in the serenity and the breathtaking vistas, especially during the hour-long sunset! See spectacular groups of icebergs at the aptly named Paradise Harbour, surrounded by ice mountains and calving icebergs. Visit the living museum of Port Lockroy – a former British research station set against towering mountain ridges. You can send postcards to loved ones from the world’s most southerly post office located here, and also stock up on souvenirs at the gift shop. Every night, recount the day’s happenings as you retire to your plush cabins.
