Dennis and Maria Oleck experienced a private, tailor-made African adventure in January 2014 with Enchanting Travels and share their highlights with us – from gorillas in Rwanda to the Great Migration in Tanzania.
My wife and I and my sister and brother-in-law were happy to see our Enchanting Travels guide waiting for us at customs although it was 1:30 AM when we landed. This was typical throughout our 3+ weeks.
Face to Face Encounters in Rwanda
On our trip we were face to face with 550 lb. Silverback Gorillas, hunting lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, warthogs, golden monkeys, zebras, impala, elands, dik-diks, wildebeests, jackals, elephants, crocodiles, baboons.
We visited a Masai village.
We were right in the middle of the Great Migration with horizon to horizon animals, all following their instincts to move.
We trekked up a mountain, explored the Serengeti and the Ngorogoro Crater, and flew into dirt air strips with “bush pilots” who had to be sure there were no animals in their way when they landed or took off. We followed dirt tire tracks and then made our own road when the tracks ended.
We stayed in permanent lodges and tented camps and experienced temperatures ranging from 55F to 115F. We were told not to leave our lodging at night without an escort or risk being attacked by local wildlife. There was never a dull moment.
All in all it was one of the best trips we have ever taken. Every day brought new experiences and adventure. We will definitely visit Africa again!
