b'TWILLINGATE, CANADATwillingate is a town off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is one of the provinces oldest ports and has a busy fishing community. The small township is located on Twillingate Islands in Notre Dame Bay. To understand the towns past, walk its winding streets lined with colorful houses and historic sites. Twillingate is known as the Iceberg Capital of the World, and in the summer, you can see large blocks of ice up close on an iceberg boat cruise. Boats sail from the Twillingate pier to Iceberg Alley, which extends along Labradors coast down to Newfoundlands southeast coast, where large pieces of ice come floating from Greenland. Between mid-May and September each year, the waters around Twillingate host various whale species that come to feed in the capelin- and krill-rich waters and build their fat stores for the winter. They include humpback, fin, sperm, blue, and minke whales. Twillingates Long Point Lighthouse is an excellent spot for whale watching, but even better are the boat tours that take visitors out to sea to spot whales, dolphins, seabirds, and other marine life.enchantingtravels.com/twillingateIceberg capital!
