Greenwood in USA

Greenwood, located by the Mississippi River delta, boasts a rich cultural heritage influenced by the population of African slaves brought here for cotton trade in the pre-Civil War era. Greenwood has plenty of historic buildings, outdoor activities, shopping, and a vibrant arts and culinary scene. However, what it is really known for is music, specifically the Delta Blues. BB King played live on radio for the first time from a station in Greenwood, in 1940, and the city has been home to musicians like Robert Johnson and Hubert Sumlin. Their legacy lives on in the Mississippi Blues Trail – a series of over 100 markers across the state, honoring the early blues players – and in various live music venues scattered across the city. Apart from music, Greenwood was also a venue for various Civil Rights marches and protests in the 60s, similarly commemorated with markers that you can visit!
