Renowned for its unparalleled beauty, thanks to the natural Mediterranean landscape, Amalfi Coast is especially immortalized in pop culture. A craggy coastal highland, it is clad in thick forests and dotted by windy cliffs framed against a Mediterranean seascape. Attracting holidayers since the Roman times, it also serves as a gateway to Capri and neighboring islands and has earned it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage site. The region’s glamorous resort towns of Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are popular holiday destinations among the who’s who of the world. Sheer dramatic cliffs hold on to pastel buildings, terraced vineyards, and lemon groves, mostly accessible via steep labyrinthine staircases, while the turquoise waters of the bays and inlets are dotted with boats and yachts. Matera is located in southern Italy’s Basilicata region. Continuously inhabited for at least 9,000 years, this historic town sits on the slopes of a rocky ravine and is known for its warren of cave dwellings.
