Khoma village is located at a three-hour drive from Mongar, and an hour’s walk from the main road to Lhuentse Dzong. Blanketed by lush greenery, this tiny village is known for its intricately, patterned silk called Kushuthara – a prized possession in the country. Quaint village pathways will lead you through farms and temples, a unique weaving culture, and entertaining local interactions with farmers, monks, and shamans. Most homes in this village have a traditional back-strap loom on their porches. It is also a common sight to see local women weaving the fabric, or stitching kiras (women’s traditional dress) sitting in groups outside their homes.
