Canyon de Chelly National Monument is quintessential Navajo country in northeastern Arizona. Home to the ancestral lands of the indigenous Navajo people, find prehistoric petroglyphs, and the millennia-old cliff dwellings of the ancestral Pueblo people as you explore the park. The stone cliffs here carry tales of ‘how the West was taken,’ with markers of great upheaval and historical unrest. Currently administered by the National Park Service for the Navajo, the community continues to live on their ancient land. Discover the prehistoric rock art strewn around the park, and an emerald green canyon surrounded by rugged sandstone cliffs, including the towering Spider Rock spire. The White House Ruins and Mummy Cave are also well worth a visit.
