See the volcanoes of Uganda! The Virungas – nine freestanding extinct and active volcanoes along the border with Rwanda and the Congo, are protected by the Mgahinga National Park on the Ugandan side. The park is home to many mountain gorillas although the primates often travel to neighboring national parks in Rwanda and Congo. For the adventurous, a day walk to climb the volcanoes starts at an altitude of 2,300 meters! Nature walks and dug-out canoe rides on Lake Mutanda are also enjoyable.
