Alchi Trip

Alchi village lies in the Leh district of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, situated on the left bank of the Indus River, 70 km downstream from the capital of Leh. Alchi differentiates itself from other Ladakhi villages by being lush green with a fertile flood plain. With small brick houses and a main road lined with apricot trees, it is not uncommon to see mules laden with wares and building material. The main attraction is the Alchi Monastery or Alchi Gompa (monastery and temple complex), one of the most important Buddhist centers in Ladakh, dating back nearly 1,000 years. Tibetan influences can still be seen in the local culture. Despite contact with Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism, the isolation of Alchi has kept the villagerquote s culture and traditions intact.
