Chiang Mai – Bangkok Night Train

Enjoy a ride across the Thai countryside on an overnight train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. Board the train at Chiang Mai Train Station, located on the east bank of the Ping River (abt 2.5km east of the old city). The journey takes about 12-15hrs, (invariably geting delayed)..the scenery on the trip down the mountains from Chiang Mai, is particularly good. Arrive next day at Bangkok’s central Hua Lampong Railway Station, located in the city centre.a huge ‘aircraft hanger-like building’, frenetic and boiling hot, housing over 20 platforms. A long distance service includes First Class travel – Private cabins for 2 persons with a lower and upper bed; air-conditionning 24×7; a little water fountain, and each compartment has its own wash basin. Food and drinks can be purchased on board, while room service is often available on select services. Alternatively, Second Class travel provides upholstered seats which convert into bunks; a shared bogey for 4 persons per cabin with a lower and upper bed, clean sheets and curtains for privacy. Food and drinks can be purchased on board. Highly advisable to carry a good book, playing cards, an ipod, and perhaps a game of scrabble/board game. However, the flip-side is that toilets are shared in both Classes.
