Your guide will tell you how Iwasaki Yatarō, founder of the Mitsubishi Corporation, rebuilt the garden and transported more than 50 huge rocks from all over Japan to be placed here. Take in the pretty bridges, the islands in the pond and the tea house before walking to the nearby Buddhist temple of Fukagawa Fudō-dō. The large temple houses rows of statues of Fudōmyō-ō, a fierce form of Buddha. The highlight of this temple is the remarkable goma-kito or fire ceremony. Watch as a Buddhist priest burns sanctified wooden sticks in a pit, while other monks chant in unison and beat the drums.
