Explore Botswana’s first national park! Once inhabited by the San bushmen, Chobe National Park is unique with its San paintings that were carved into the rocks. Today, Chobe is a haven for many animal species including impala, giraffe and a wide variety of birds, and is most renowned for the multitude of elephants that concentrate on the Chobe River during the dry season. It is estimated 50,000 pachyderms have made Chobe their home! There is also a large concentration of predators such as lions and leopards. Each summer, floods pour through a vast network of narrow waterways, lagoons until they are soaked up by the sands. Lions, cheetahs and wild dogs hunt in the open grassland! Follow in the footsteps of early explorers! Maun has been the start of expeditions into Botswana’s wildlife areas since the turn of the century, and is the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Many guests stay only a day before setting off on safari. Once a village, Maun has recently grown into a bustling little town with shops and hotels. Watch as herdsmen wander along the dusty curbside driving their cattle to the marketplace, or see the traditional houses dotted along the wide banks of the Thamalakane River where red lechwe graze next to local donkeys and goats.
