Florence

Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, sits on the banks of the Arno River in Tuscany. The city was once home to the powerful Medici dynasty that transformed it into Europe’s cultural capital. Today, it blends art, architecture and daily life seamlessly. The historic center houses magnificent treasures such as Brunelleschi’s dome that crowns the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the sculptures lining Piazza della Signoria and the masterpieces in the Uffizi Gallery. Giotto’s bell tower rises nearby, its striking marble patterns catching the light. Another highlight of Florence is the hearty Tuscan cuisine on offer. Everything from robust meat dishes to delicious pastas, paired with fine Chianti wines. In the Oltrarno district, find leather workers and goldsmiths practising ancient crafts in their workshops. In the evening, join locals on a sunset ‘passeggiata’ across the Ponte Vecchio or climb the hill to Piazzale Michelangelo for stunning views.

Venice

Venice is a city unlike any other. Made up of 118 islands that are crisscrossed by canals and connected by more than 400 bridges, it has a timeless, ethereal quality to it. Gondolas and boats ply the canals much as they have for centuries, and a focus on historical preservation has ensured the streets remain lined with an array of architectural treasures. The city’s beating heart is the majestic St Mark’s Square. On one side of the square stands the Doge’s Palace, a triumph of Venetian Gothic architecture. On the other side is St Mark’s Basilica with its five domes and striking bell tower. Nearby lies the famous Bridge of Sighs, so named by Lord Byron because it supposedly offered convicts a final view of Venice before their imprisonment. Art is everywhere, with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Ca’ Pesaro two of the standout museums. Italy’s coffee culture also originated in Venice. The Caffè Florian, founded in 1720 near the Grand Canal, is a city institution and the perfect place to sip an espresso while soaking in the history all around you.

The Old Town is tightly packed with houses sitting close together, with a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets winding their way down to the seaside. The town’s most prominent landmark is St. Euphemia’s Church, perched on a hilltop, with panoramic views of the headland and waterfront. The laidback air invites travelers to let down their hair and enjoy a leisurely vacation, soaking in the sun and the sea, and people watching by the town square. Rovinj also boasts of lively outdoor markets that are fun to browse around. Relish the delicious fresh seafood, a variety of pastas, exquisite Istrian truffles and pršut or dried ham, all washed down by the local Terrano red wine liqueur known as Teranino.

Your chauffeur will drive you from Split to Dubrovnik in a private vehicle (Duration: 3 hrs)

2 Nights

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik has to be one of the best preserved historical towns standing by the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea. The Old Town of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is nothing short of a time capsule, taking you back centuries to its heyday as a great mercantile port. Standing at the foothills of Mount Srdj, beside the Dalmatian coast, the town’s natural landscape is just as impressive as its heritage architecture. Parts of the old sea fort rise right from the town’s waterfront precinct, complete with a massive tower, fortified walls, beautiful palaces and churches. Must visit monuments include the St. Blaise Church with its grand Baroque architecture, the Sponza Palace from the Renaissance period, and the Rector’s Palace, which is a museum today. A cable car ride up to Mount Srdj is worth the panoramic view of the city spread out beneath. Settle down at the pedestrian only town square lined with eateries, enjoying black risotto and the local rožata pudding.
