Jeonju is the capital of North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The city is known for its food and novel festivals. In May 2012, Jeonju was named a Creative City for Gastronomy by UNESCO in recognition of its long tradition of home cooking, food research and food festivals. One of those food festivals is the Jeonju Bibimbap Festival, which the city has held every October since 2007. The city also hosts the Jeonju International Film Festival, which attracts roughly 50,000 visitors a year.
