The city is a vibrant cultural and artistic center, and offers deep insights into historic and contemporary Korean culture. There is the Gwangju National Museum, built in traditional Korean style, and has an excellent Buddhist art collection, including ancient undersea remains. The city also hosts the Gwangju Biennale where you can catch art exhibitions as well as dance and music performances.
