Concealed behind the gleaming glass and steel buildings of Frankfurt is a traditional and charming city. With a past that goes back centuries, this global hub of commerce, culture, and tourism has plenty to offer visitors. While reputed financial institutions occupy one half of the city, the other is dotted with quaint neighborhoods featuring outdoor cafes and cozy taverns serving apple wine and splendid local cuisine. When its window shopping or retail therapy that you seek, head to the pedestrian-only upscale area of Zeil or Goethestrasse with its designer outlets. Wander across Kleinmarkthalle as you take in the sights and smells of the city’s biggest public marketplace. The many museums of Frankfurt offer you a glimpse into the city’s history, while the lovely parks and gardens of the Frankfurter Grungurtel and scenic river walks of Mainuferpark make for a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Head out on this guided tour of prominent landmarks as you listen to your guide narrate the unique history of this city. Begin your tour at the 18th century Brandenburg Gate, built in the neoclassical style of architecture. Understand how the city, thought to be the capital of progressive culture in the 1920s, saw a reversal of fortunes after Hitler came to power. Stand above Hitler’s bunker and listen to your guide speak about the famous dictator’s demise. Hear the story of how this impressive city was divided by the Berlin Wall in 1961 only to emerge as a beacon of hope on reunification in 1989. Stroll past the remnants of this infamous concrete barrier as you head to Checkpoint Charlie, the crossing point between the two sides during the Cold War. Walk by the Nazi Air Ministry building and on to the Holocaust Memorial which features 2,711 concrete slabs. Get a glimpse of The Reichstag in all its glory as you make your way to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Museum Island. Stroll around Bebelplatz, the public square with its share of history, before you pass by the Topography of Terror, a museum located on the site of the erstwhile Gestapo headquarters. Mosey down the tree-lined Unter den Linden boulevard and take a closer look at the Moorish style New Synagogue. Follow your guide past the Royal Armory, the former Soviet Embassy, and the TV Tower. See the Neue Wache and Berlin cathedral and continue along Friedrichstrasse famed as the cabaret mile in the 1920s. You could start your exploration of this unique city at the 18th century Brandenburg Gate built in the neoclassical style of architecture. If history interests you, stop by the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe for a glimpse into the travails of the Holocaust. Or, head to the Berlin Wall Memorial where parts of the wall that divided the country still stand. Stop to click a picture at Checkpoint Charlie that was once an important border crossing point. You could also visit the Reichstag building, the seat of the German parliament, and take the elevator up to the dome for splendid views of the city. Group Tour of Neuschwanstein Castle & Linderhof Palace

Explore two beautiful UNESCO-listed residences of the Bavarian monarch King Ludwig II. In the morning, travel in a luxurious coach equipped with toilet facilities and WiFi. En route to Neuschwanstein Castle, take in scenic views from the panoramic windows and enjoy the complimentary snacks and beverages onboard. As you enter the town, see the impressive castle that served as the inspiration for the castle in Walt Disney’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and featured in the classic movie ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. Explore Munich on your own

After, head up the tower at Peterskirche to savor splendid views of the city. At lunchtime, get a taste of authentic German delicacies at one of the charming eateries and cafes that can be found all across the city. Later, stop by the large park of Englischer Garten to catch a glimpse of surfers riding the waves formed by the surging Eisbach river. The most perfectly preserved world-famous medieval town will enchant you with its half-timbered houses and impressive city walls.
