Observe gorillas! Volcanoes National Park is part of the Virunga Mountains protected area, also part of Kongo and Rwanda. The area is home to around 320 highly endangered mountain gorillas, a half of the world’s population. Sitting face to face with a 160kg silverback in the impenetrable rainforest is a once in a lifetime experience and is certainly one of the highlights of every private trip to Africa. A group of trackers and a ranger will guide you up the slopes of the volcanoes. Depending on the movements of the gorillas, you will spend three to nine hours gorilla trekking.
