Dordogne in France

The Dordogne region is a picturesque area located within Aquitaine, in the southwest corner of France. It is commonly referred to as the Périgord, which was the name of the region prior to the French revolution. The Dordogne River meanders through the valley and was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2012. Charming villages and grand chateaux abound. Visit the town of Perigueux to see the Cathedrale St-Front, with its five domes, and the Vesunna Museum. La Roque-Gageac is a centuries-old town where you can stroll past beautiful houses and admire the views.

You will also find hundreds of prehistoric caves adorned with ancient art. Some of the caves are even open to the public. The famous Lascaux cave is closed but the works on its walls have been recreated in Lascaux II, which you can visit. There is also a prehistoric theme park that recreates the environment of the Cro-Magnon period. The Dordogne region is a gourmand’s paradise and is renowned for its speciality food products, particularly truffles and foie gras.
