Sirmione is a quaint little settlement on the southern shores of Lake Garda in Lombardy. One of the prettiest historic towns around the lake, Sirmione has much to offer culture buffs as well as outdoorsy vacationers. The Scaligero Castle, the ancient ruins of the Grotte di Catullo, and the thermal baths are the town’s most popular attractions. The well-preserved medieval castle of Scaligero is definitely worth a visit, as is the Roman excavation site by the lakeside with a charming little museum displaying priceless artifacts. When in town, take a good soak at the thermal baths of Terme di Catullo and Terme di Virgilio, and don’t leave without enjoying a sunset boat tour on Lake Garda. Enjoy walking down the winding streets of the old town lined with colorful homesteads, boutiques, cafés and local eateries.
