Cesme is a district located in Turkey’s Izmir Province. A popular holiday destination, it sits on a promontory on the tip of the peninsula at the country’s westernmost end and is home to a number of scenic beaches, making it an attractive alternative to Bodrum. Two of the more popular towns in the district are Alacati and Cesme town, which are worth visiting from May to October. Alacati is charming and atmospheric, with cobbled streets, traditional stone buildings, and vintage boutiques. It has also become a popular windsurfing destination and holds an annual windsurfing festival. Cesme is a small resort town on the Aegean sea.
Overlooking the harbor is Cesme Castle, a restored military fortress. A few paces from the castle is a former Ottoman caravanserai. You can also find an attractive seafront promenade, lots of reasonably priced dining options and examples of traditional Ottoman houses along some of the town’s back streets.
