What Makes It Special
Ålesund’s oldest hotel carries more than a century of architectural character, pairing its historic Art Nouveau façade with warm, contemporary Scandinavian interiors. With individually designed accommodations and an atmosphere where original details meet modern craftsmanship, Hotel 1904 offers a distinctly personal take on the city’s heritage.
Details
Hotel 1904 stands on Løvenvoldgata in the heart of Ålesund, a city renowned for its remarkable concentration of Art Nouveau architecture following the devastating 1904 fire. Built that same year, the hotel remains closely connected to the city’s architectural identity, its historic façade forming part of the distinctive streetscape.
Inside, the 71 accommodations combine high ceilings, carefully selected materials, warm textiles and thoughtful details. No two are exactly alike, giving the property an intimate, individual character while maintaining a cohesive Scandinavian design language.
Food and drink are woven naturally into the hotel experience. Green Garden, the property’s espresso bar and restaurant, serves seasonal dishes built around ingredients that often come from the surrounding region, including fish from the fjords, wild mushrooms, Norwegian cheeses, fresh vegetables and more. Its sheltered backyard provides a peaceful outdoor setting, surrounded by historic architecture and greenery.
In the evenings, Krystall Bar offers an intimate setting for small plates and signature cocktails. Together, the hotel’s architecture, individually considered interiors and lively food-and-drink spaces create a stay that feels deeply rooted in Ålesund while remaining distinctly modern.
