What Makes It Special
A landmark of Flåm since the 1870s, Fretheim Hotel combines a beautifully restored Swiss-style historic building with a contemporary extension. The hotel’s 122 accommodations all overlook either the fjord or surrounding mountains, keeping Flåm’s dramatic landscape at the center of the experience.

Details
Fretheim Hotel sits at the terminus of the celebrated Flåm Railway, with the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord close by. Its central position makes it an easy base for exploring the village and the surrounding landscape of steep mountains, waterfalls and the Aurlandsfjord.

The hotel’s historic character is most evident in its oldest section, where restored interiors feature antique furnishings, fireplaces and a library. Some of the heritage accommodations retain period-inspired details, while the property as a whole blends its old world character with modern comforts. The glass-fronted section, completed in 2000, houses key communal spaces and offers views toward the fjord and mountains.

Dining centers on Restaurant Arven, where Norwegian traditions meet locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from producers around Flåm. Restaurant Utsyn offers a more casual setting with burgers, grilled dishes and panoramic fjord views, while the Lobby Bar provides a relaxed place to enjoy a drink overlooking the garden and fjord.
