What Makes It Special
A 1919 neoclassical landmark preserves the spirit of Oslo’s transatlantic past. This former headquarters of the Norwegian America Line has been transformed into a stylish hotel where maritime heritage meets contemporary Norwegian culture.
Details
Amerikalinjen stands beside Jernbanetorget in central Oslo, on the site from which generations of Norwegians once departed for America aboard Norwegian America Line ships. The original building has been thoughtfully restored, retaining its grand neoclassical architecture while incorporating contemporary Norwegian design, historic photographs and details inspired by the voyages and people connected to the line.
Accommodations combine elegant Scandinavian design with the building’s historic character, with generous windows, rich materials and carefully considered details creating a warm, residential feel. At the heart of the hotel, the central courtyard provides a striking gathering space beneath a retractable glass roof, while historic artifacts and design elements reinforce the property’s connection to its past.
Food, drink and music are integral to the experience. Atlas serves contemporary Nordic cuisine throughout the day, while Pier 42 is an intimate cocktail bar inspired by the transatlantic journey. Downstairs, Gustav offers live jazz in a setting influenced by the legendary clubs of New York.
A wellness area with a sauna, steam room and fitness center provides a quieter counterpoint. Together, Amerikalinjen’s history, design, dining and music create a hotel that feels deeply connected to Oslo while carrying the spirit of a much wider world.
