Within a 20 minutes drive from the main entrance of the eastern side of the Queen Elisabeth National Park, Katara Lodge is situated on hills on the edge of the Great Rift Valley offering great views into the valley and open savannah below. Beautifully framed by Lake Edward and the Virunga and Ruwenzori mountain ranges in the distance, this boutique lodge offers accommodation in seven luxurious thatched cottages composed of 6 doubles and one family cottage. The lounge, dining area, pool and all of the rooms are located on a beautiful stretch of hills overlooking the savannah with endless views into the valley, offering a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Each spacious cottage was hand crafted using locally available materials and carved into the hillside by the Katara village community. The cottages combine wooden floors and canvas that can be folded away for uninterrupted views of the park stretching out below. All the rooms have private decks to enjoy the surrounding scenery. One of the rooms features a star bed that can be rolled out at night, offering you the experience to sleep right under the stars. This is a great place to go on game drives, enjoy a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel, go chimpanzee trekking, enjoy forest and nature walks or experience an interpretive village walk.
