Big Island of Hawaii

Big Island, also called the Island of Hawaii, is the largest and youngest island in the archipelago, and a place of many stories and legends. You can experience eight climatic zones as you travel around the island. Emerald coasts, majestic volcanic mountains, stark lava deserts, rolling pastureland and misty valleys make for an incredible variety of experiences. Big Island is home to Mauna Kea, the world’s tallest mountain when measured from the ocean floor, and a great place for stargazing. Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano, spewing molten lava consistently since 1983, is a great place to take a lava viewing tour. Be sure to visit Puako Petroglyph Archaeological District, with its 3,000 petroglyphs. Wherever you go on this island, you’ll be welcomed with warmth and delicious food. The pure locally grown Kona coffee is not to be missed! June to September is the best time to visit if you’d like to avoid the rainy season, but keep in mind that the whale-watching season starts in November.
