1 Night

Guanajuato

Guanajuato is a beautiful mountainous city characterized by candy-colored buildings and narrow hilly alleyways. Jardin de la Union, featuring trimmed Indian laurel trees fringed by restaurants and cafes, forms the social heart of this university town. Sip on a cuppa at one of the many cafes that surround the charming central square, listening to Mariachi music and watch the day go by. Leisurely walks take you down narrow alleys framed by colorful homes and green spaces dotted with manicured trees and frog sculptures. Local legends are best recounted at the Alley of the Kiss, and at the nightly tradition of Callejoneadas, which involves following a band of music-playing guides who regale the crowd with tales of Guanajuato. Other attractions include visiting century-old mummies and tours to Guanajuato’s silver mines. The funicular to El Pipila monument viewpoint offers fantastic vistas of town. Celebrating the works of the Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, Guanajuato hosts an annual festival called El Cerventino.
