Paris

Paris is a city of artists, writers and poets, of lovers, dreamers and romantics. Known as the City of Lights, it is home to the Louvre, the most celebrated museum in the world, which houses the Mona Lisa, the most celebrated painting in the world. The Musée d’Orsay, located on the west bank of the River Seine, contains the largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces to be found anywhere. Majestic buildings appear everywhere you walk. The Eiffel Tower rises over 1,000ft and is the enduring symbol of the city. The Arc de Triomphe stands proudly at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, one of the world’s most beautiful avenues. The Notre Dame Cathedral is a fine example of Gothic architecture, while the Palace of Versailles is a testament to the brilliance of French classical architecture. Then, there is the food. For centuries Paris has been a gastronomic paradise, serving dishes meticulously prepared to the highest standards. It is also an international fashion capital, boasting design houses such as Chanel and Dior, and luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermés, and Cartier.

Normandy Region

The name conjures up landmark historical events from the medieval ages down to the 20th century – the famous execution of Joan of Arc, the 11th century Norman invasion of England, everyday medieval life forever captured in the Bayeux Tapestry and images of Allied soldiers landing on its beaches during WWII. Geographically, Normandy’s Atlantic coastline mirrors the chalky cliffs of Dover across from the English Channel. And its very name comes from the Viking ‘Northmen’, who raided England and the North of France in the early ages. The Normandy region, shaped by miles of the Atlantic coast, numerous streams and rivers (including the Seine), has always been known for its rich agricultural and marine produce. It has also been an important center of scholarship and learning, captured by the striking island monastery of Mont St-Michel and the romantic ruins of the Jumièges Abbey. The beautiful capital city of Rouen, the war museums of Caen, and the charming old manor homes of Pays d’Auge are all worth a visit. Normandy’s rich culinary tradition of the finest cheese, seafood, delicious ciders and a bottle of Calvados is also enough to attract travelers from across the world.

You will be transferred from the Beaune train station to your hotel in a private vehicle

2 Nights

Beaune

Located right in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or vineyards, the old medieval town of Beaune lives and breathes for the ‘draught of vintage tasting of Flora and the country green’. Wine may very well be flowing through the veins of its cobblestoned streets and maturing beneath its old tiled roof houses. One is not, in fact, very far from the truth because the old city does sport a subterranean maze of wine cellars that goes back to the medieval era! It is hardly surprising that Beaune is one of the best places in the country for wine tasting tours. This beautiful city’s second claim to fame is the medieval Hôtel-Dieu or Hospices de Beaune, a former charitable hospital. At present, the building functions as a charming museum. The city has managed to blend its two loves into a popular tradition: its annual wine auction is held on the grounds of the former hospital.

2 Nights

Avignon

Avignon lies on the left bank of the Rhone River in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. This city served as the seat of the Catholic popes for most of the 14th century, leaving behind the massive, fortress-like Palais des Papes that dominates the city center to this day. In the old town, ochre and cream buildings line the narrow streets. The historic Rue des Teinturiers runs alongside a quiet canal turned by ancient waterwheels. At a terrace table, slow down to savor regional flavors such as savory tapenade, brandade de morue and a glass of nearby Côtes du Rhône wine. A short climb leads to the Rocher des Doms hilltop gardens, offering sweeping views over the water, the old bridge below and the hills beyond. Avignon also makes for a good base to explore nearby Roman ruins, world-class vineyards and the idyllic villages of the Provençal countryside.

You will be transferred from the Nice train station to your hotel in a private vehicle

2 Nights

Nice

Nice sits along the Baie des Anges, where the Alps drop into the Mediterranean on the sun-soaked Côte d’Azur. The city takes its name from Nikaia, a nod to Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. For centuries it passed between Provençal, Savoyard and Italian rulers before joining France in 1860. That past is showcased in the ochre facades of the old town, where alleys open onto grand Belle Epoque boulevards. The people here are laidback, and many families have worked the markets, fishing boats and perfume trades for generations. The Cours Saleya market offers fresh flowers, olives and spices, and antiques on Mondays. At a lively cafe terrace, savor a lazy lunch of warm socca and salade niçoise. As the day approaches sunset, walk the Promenade des Anglais. A short climb from the old town leads to Castle Hill, topped with ruins and offering sweeping views over the bay. Nice also makes a good base for exploring Èze, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Monaco.
