Khasab and Musandam Region

Khasab, the capital city of the Musandam province, is where the ancient maritime history of Oman comes alive. Dotted with picturesque dhows or local wooden boats, the Khasab Harbor is a popular starting point for scenic cruises past the Strait of Hormuz. Here you can savor rugged coastal views of fjord-like craggy inlets, stark mountainscapes, and even spot dolphins frolicking in the azure blue waters. The Khasab Fort is a history lover’s delight with romantic stone turrets and a museum displaying artifacts and archaeological finds from the past. Though originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, the Khasab Palace now is best known for its imposing circular tower and model wooden boats. But to really soak in the local color, check out the town souk that bustles with handicrafts, dried fruits, and leather goods. The lagoons off the Musandam Peninsula are not just popular swimming and boating destinations but perfect for a spot of scuba diving too. Salalah
