Spread along the western shore of the Río de la Plata in eastern Argentina, Buenos Aires has served as the country’s federal capital since 1880 and remains its cultural and political heart. Grand Belle Époque boulevards, ornate European-influenced architecture and a vibrant street life shaped by successive waves of Italian, Spanish and Jewish immigration give the city a character unlike anywhere else in South America.
Each neighborhood feels like a world unto itself. Tree-lined avenues in Recoleta are lined with grand historic palaces and marble mausoleums, while the cobblestone streets of San Telmo wind past antique shops, galleries and artisan studios. In La Boca, brightly painted timber-and-metal façades reflect the neighborhood’s colorful immigrant heritage. Across the city, chef-driven parrillas serve Argentina’s celebrated beef, paired with generous pours of Malbec from Mendoza.
As night falls the city shifts, as hidden milongas draw seasoned dancers and curious newcomers into low-lit rooms, where the bandoneón sets the emotional pulse of the night. Here, tango is more than a performance: it is a language of intimacy and improvisation, carrying longing, grief, humor and joy across worn wooden floors.

From being a simple village where time seemed to stand still, El Calafate has grown into a modern city, frequented just as much by the Argentineans themselves as by foreign tourists. While here, explore the Perito Moreno glacier and the ‘massif’ surrounding it from close quarters with trained and experienced personnel, and marvel at the sight of ice floes breaking off from the glacier and floating past you.

Torres del Paine
Rising from the southern reaches of Chilean Patagonia, Torres del Paine National Park is one of South America’s defining wilderness landscapes. Ancient glaciers carved the terrain over millennia, leaving behind a dramatic tableau of granite spires, turquoise lakes and sweeping golden steppe that stretches toward the horizon.
The park’s signature towers, the three sheer columns of pale rock that seem to pierce the Patagonian sky, anchor the landscape visually and spiritually. Below them, the Grey Glacier calves into a lake of electric blue. Guanacos move in unhurried herds across open grasslands, while Andean condors ride the fierce thermal winds overhead. The elusive puma also inhabits this territory, moving quietly through the scrub and rocky outcrops.
What draws discerning travelers here is the ability to experience the raw wilderness while accessing comfortable accommodations. Eco-lodges position guests directly within the landscape, their floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Cuernos del Paine as the last light fades. Expert local naturalists guide each day, turning every trail and shoreline into a deeper encounter with one of the planet’s great wild places.

Santiago de Chile is a major metropolis that rests in a valley between the snow-capped Andes rising dramatically to the east and the coastal cordillera rolling gently to the west. Founded in 1541, the city pulses with the rhythms of both colonial and contemporary Chile. You will see ancient churches with weathered stone facades standing beside glass towers in the financial district, and street vendors selling sopaipillas in plazas where protests and celebrations have shaped the nation’s turbulent history. The air carries the scent of empanadas from corner bakeries while street musicians play cueca and cumbia along the sidewalks. On clear days, the Andes appear so close you could reach out and touch them, their peaks turning shades of pink and gold at sunset. Ride a funicular up San Cristóbal hill, where the white statue of the Virgin Mary watches over the sprawling metropolis below. Visit bohemian neighborhoods such as Bellavista which is brimming with colorful murals, book shops and wine bars. From here, you could venture to Valparaíso on the Pacific coast, the vineyards of the Maipo Valley, or the otherworldly landscapes of the Atacama Desert to the north.
