Lima, Peru’s vibrant capital, lies on the spectacular Pacific coast and blends sweeping ocean views with history and a cosmopolitan culture. Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to more than 1,600 balconies that date to the Viceroyalty and Republican times. You will also find impressive archaeological sites throughout the city, such as Huaca Pucllana, an adobe and clay pyramid that dates to the Lima Culture. Lima has the highest concentration of museums in Peru as well. In recent times, the city has developed a thriving food scene that has earned it the title of the Gastronomical Capital of the Americas. Its restaurants have found a place in the World’s Best 50 restaurants list. At the other end of the spectrum, there is a bustling and varied street food scene, ensuring there is something for every budget. Peruvian coffee and chocolate are highly rated as well and you can find both at El Cacaotal, a museum of cacao products from all over the country.

You could start your day with a stroll around the historic Lima Centro locality, soaking in views of the fine examples of colonial architecture such as the cathedral and government palaces. Or, head south to the upscale localities of San Isidro and Miraflores for some window shopping and gastronomical delights at one of the many restaurants. Take your pick of delicacies from fresh seafood ceviche to flavorful pollo a la brasa! Alternatively, you could spend the day soaking in the sun and having fun in the water at spectacular beaches. The small city of Puerto Maldonado is located a short distance (by Perúvian standards) away from Cusco, and is the southern doorway to the rainforest. Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley of the Incas (Valle Sagrado de los Incas) is reachable via Cusco, and links this erstwhile capital of the Incan Empire with the citadel in Machu Picchu. Since it lies en route to Machu Picchu, you can visit it either before or after the extraordinary trip to the world famous citadel. As the name suggests, you will experience spectacular landscapes such as fabulous mountain slopes, Incan ruins, and hazy valleys in order to reach Valle Sagrado. This is an ideal place to enjoy some peace and quiet and recoup your energies.

Uncover the secrets of the spectacular Sacred Valley, once an integral part of the Incan empire, at your own pace. Soak in gorgeous views of the Andes range and the verdant mountainside from Mirador Taray, considered the best viewing point in the region. You could then see the magnificent Inca ruins at Chincheros, also known for its weavers who adhere to ancient traditions and techniques. Stop at Moray to savor views of scenic terraced farmlands and the famous salt mines where you can get a glimpse of the extraction process and methods. Journey on to the town of Pisac where you will find the largest Inca cemetery in South America. Wander around the local market where vendors hawk the freshest produce, meat, and also handicraft items before you head back. Visit to Chincheros Town, Maras Salt Mines and Moray Ruins

On this full-day privately guided excursion you will visit the beautiful colonial town of Chincheros as well as the spectacular Incan sites of Maras and Moray. Start your morning at the fascinating Maras Salt mines which feature more than 100 small pools fed by a salt-water mountain spring that is interconnected by channels. It still remains in use today by the community and represents an important income for numerous families in the area. Walk up to the vantage viewpoint from where you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the salt mines and its surroundings. In the afternoon, you will head along a dirt road towards another typical Andean village called Moray; famed for being an Inca agricultural experimental center. At Chincheros visit a local textile workshops were local alpaca weavers practice their centuries old traditions. Both these ancient sites and your visit to Chincheros, will take your breath away and leave you fascinated by the mysteries of the Incan civilization. Exploration of Ollantaytambo Ruins

Embark on this fascinating private exploration of the ancient Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Set at an altitude of 9,160 feet (2,792 m), this quaint town sits tucked amid soaring mountains and spectacular ruins. Saunter around the meticulously laid out town with an efficient irrigation system put in place by the expert architects, masons, and craftsmen of the Inca Empire. Walk across narrow alleyways and cobblestone streets as you make your way to the terraces that once made up the majestic fortress – one of the few where the Spanish invaders suffered a defeat. Climb up to the top of the fortress to enter the complex of the Temple of the Sun, which lies incomplete. Marvel at the massive Wall of the Six Monoliths and the ceremonial center situated before savoring stunning views from your vantage point. Relish the vistas to your heart’s content before beginning your descent. On the way down, stop for a closer look at the many baths and fountains, prominent among them being the Princess Bath.

Cusco

Cusco is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an amazing amalgam of an Inca capital and colonial city. Situated at 3,400 m above sea level, fertile river-fed valley, Cuzco was developed in the 1400s under the Inca ruler Pachacutec into a complex urban centre. The Spanish added baroque churches and a palace, while emptying the Sun Temple and Golden Gardens of their treasures. Today the city itself is the treasure, preserved for one and all to enjoy.
