Vancouver

Vancouver is a city that offers something for everyone. It sits in the shadows of the North Shore mountains on the Pacific coast of British Columbia, and serves as a gateway to the great outdoors. While the city center allows easy access to hiking and biking trails, the ocean offers a plethora of water sports. Stanley Park, located right next to the downtown heart, contains 400-hectares of natural West Coast rainforest, and a number of beaches. The paved seawall lines the park’s perimeter and provides stunning sea views. Head to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park to experience the swinging planks of 450-foot Capilano Suspension Bridge and walk among the treetops of the rainforest. Vancouver is also an ethnically and linguistically diverse city with a wide range of culinary and cultural attractions. Explore colorful neighborhoods such as Commercial Drive, Gastown, and Chinatown, stopping to have a meal at one of the many restaurants. There’s plenty of shopping to be had too, with Granville Island in particular home to unique stores such as the Granville Island Broom Co.

Kamloops

Kamloops is a lovely city that sits tucked away in the Thomson Valley at the meeting point of two rivers in south central British Columbia. From its origins as a fur hunting center of the early 19th century and its recent past as a hub of the country’s logging industry, Kamloops has now transformed into a tourist magnet. With a generous sprinkling of natural attractions and a rich cultural heritage, this scenic region holds promise of an enjoyable getaway for all seasons. Hiking and biking are two popular ways of discovering the rolling grasslands, hoodoos, and sprawling canyons. Those looking for a more sedate pace can opt for golfing sessions at the many courses. Fishing for freshwater species in some of the region’s nearly one hundred lakes promises further relaxation. Wine and beer enthusiasts will have plenty to cheer about given the pick of winery or brewery tours as well as tasting sessions on offer. The art galleries and performing arts venues are perfect for soaking in the cultural ambiance of this vibrant city. In December, Kamloops turns into a winter wonderland with downhill skiing and ice fishing.
