With commanding views of magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro, Arusha is nestled in the shadow of Mount Meru, and an ideal launchpad to reach the country’s most renowned game reserves. Looming over Arusha, the dramatic 4556 meters peak of Mount Meru is a great alternative to Mount Kilimanjaro for fit hikers as it is less crowded and less likely to engender altitude sickness.

Manyara & Ngorongoro

Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is stunningly beautiful. You might spot a famous tree-climbing lion stretched on the branches of a flat-topped acacia tree, whilst lake views are made lovelier with a 400-strong bird species, including pelicans. Journey further to the Ngorongoro Crater, which has one of the highest wildlife densities on earth with antelopes, wildebeest, zebra and the Big Five. One of the natural wonders of the world, the wildlife of Ngorongoro co-exists peacefully with the local Maasai people and their cattle. Surrounding foothills offer lush green landscapes dotted with small villages and picturesque coffee and tea plantations that you can explore by bicycle or on foot.

Game drive in Manyara National Park

Witness tree climbing lions, a rare sight if ever there was one, at northern Tanzania’s Manyara National Park. Manyara National Park occupies a vast area, spread over 330 square kilometers, and has a lake covering 200 square kilometers of this area. Explore the landscape and the rich flora and fauna at the park. Marvel at the African elephant, a zebra, or a majestic cheetah in pursuit of prey. Also train your sights on giraffes, impalas, baboons, buffaloes and monkeys. Observe hippos and crocodiles at the lake habitat. Enjoy some bird watching and catch cormorants and storks in flight. The months between July and October mark the dry season that is ideal for spotting mammals. Visit between November and June for birdwatching.

Game drive in Ngorongoro Crater

Drive down to the Ngorongoro Crater floor, with some of the most fertile and richest grazing grounds in Africa that has in turn engendered one of the highest density of top predators in the continent! Expect some of the best game viewing opportunities here, with herds of zebras, wildebeests, large prides of lions, hyenas and rhinos, among many more animals and birds. Experience breath-taking sightings of massive herds of wildlife set against the volcanic crater and surrounding highlands of Ngorongoro. Enjoy thrilling game drives in this Unesco World Heritage Site, awash in otherworldly aqua shades. Break for a much deserved picnic lunch amid a magical landscape. Relish a generous and scrumptious luncheon spread, before heading back. Northern Serengeti

The Northern Serengeti is the most secluded area of this sprawling wilderness park, given its remote location. Extending from the Seronera region to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, this stretch of unspoiled hills is perfect for leisurely game drives and safari bush walks. The Lobo Hills are home to a dense elephant population as well as prides of lions. Cheetahs, bat-eared foxes, and spotted hyenas are some of the other wild inhabitants found here. At the Lobo Valley, you could spot giraffes, eland, and topi. From mid July to October, the wildebeest move to this part of the Serengeti, crossing Mara River which is populated with giant Nile crocodiles, a perilous obstacle that the wildebeest must overcome. The unlucky ones quickly get snapped up by the hungry reptiles, some of which measure up to 12 feet in length. Hot air balloon safaris are an excellent way to view wildlife here.

As the largest city of East Africa, you can experience contemporary urban African life in Nairobi with colorful street markets, authentic African cuisine, and a buzzing nightlife. Discover the National Museum or explore Kenya’s historic roots with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. Feed giraffes in the Giraffe Center or get very close to baby elephants and cheetah in the David Sheldrick Center and animal orphanage. On Nairobi’s doorstep, enjoy afternoon walks and spectacular sundowners in the Ngong Hills, or head to Nairobi National Park for the the only place in the world to witness wild lions against the backdrop of skyscrapers.

Victoria Falls

Smoke that thunders! That is what the Kolobo tribe who lived by the Victoria Falls two centuries ago once called this seventh wonder of the world. The spray can be seen from miles away. The wide basalt cliff, over which the falls thunder, transforms the Zambezi from a wide placid river into a ferocious torrent cutting through a series of dramatic gorges. A path along the edge of the surrounding rainforest provides you with unparalleled views from various special vantage points. Enjoy diverse activities, from helicopter rides to gentle boat cruises on the Zambezi.

The trip was planned perfectly from beginning to the end. We were notified of any changes to the schedule based on delayed flights etc. It is a real advantage to have Enchanting Travels make the arrangements that allowed us to speed through customs and visa checks. Our drivers were always there waiting for our arrival so no time wasted waiting. Just the ease of the logistics that comes with traveling with Enchanting Travels keeps up going back to them when we are planning a trip. The experiences were beyond words. Our game drive guides were exceptional in getting us to where the animals were so we could enjoy seeing cheetah cubs at play while mom watched, lion cubs playing while a group of lioness’s napped in the sun and two male lions did the same. The most incredible sight was watching a group of 6 lioness’s separate a female buffalo and her calf and going on to taking them both down. It was like watching a Nat Geo film but we were there within 30 yards to watch. Our accommodations were top notch, staff everywhere we were were exceptional, and the settings were all different but wonderful. Our trip coordinator was in constant contact just to check in and see if there was anything we needed her to do. The Trip Agent App, our first time using it, was a very nice feature and was so much easier to use rather than pulling out a hard copy of the trip to find the answer to our questions. I wasn’t sure if I would use it or not but became dependent on it. Traveling doesn’t get any better if you travel with Enchanting Travels. We will be back!
