is a small city in lower northern Thailand, renowned for the ruins of the ancient city Sukhothai which was the Thai capital during the 13th century. Perceived as the ‘golden age’ of Thai civilisation, with religious art and architecture in classic of Thai styles, ‘muang kao’ (old city) of Sukhothai features about 70 sq km of ruins…one of the most visited of ancient Thai sites. Sukhothai Historical Park has numerous sites of historical interest and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other interesting sights include Ramkhamhaeng National Museum and National Park, Sri Satchanalai National Park, The Royal Palace and Wat Mahathat.
