Akagera Safari
Explore a labyrinth of swamps and lakes! To the east of Rwanda lies Akagera National Park – a typical African savannah landscape punctuated with eight lakes. Set at a relatively low altitude on the Tanzanian border, the park is dominated by the meandering Akagera River and attracts thirsty giraffes, zebras, antelopes and elephants daily. Hippopotami grunt and splutter throughout the day, while crocodiles soak up the sun. The park has more than 500 different bird species and if you’re lucky you will spot leopards, hyenas or even stray lions! Set up base at Kibungo, the nearest city, for easy access to the park.
