Hpa-An, also known as Pa An, is a charming town and capital of the Kayin state, located north of Mawlamyine and near to the Thai border. Hpan-An is reachable by car from Yangon or Mawlamyine, or by a five to six hour boat ride from Mawlamyine to Hpa-An. Hpa-An is a distinctive rural town, with a dramatic backdrop of limestone mountains. Covered in luscious tropical greenery and offerring picturesque views, the tallest mountain is Mount Zwekabin. The Kayin people are very fond of the color red, which is seen worn by most men women.
