Nishimuraya Honkan is a 150-year-old ryokan (inn) in the hot spring town of Kinosaki Onsen. It is built in the sukiya-zukuri style of architecture and has an open lobby with original parquet floors and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a beautiful garden. Rooms have futon bedding, tatami mats, sliding glass doors, altars with flower arrangements and lovely handcrafted artworks. Most rooms look out onto the garden of tall ancient pine trees, meticulously trimmed bushes, moss-covered stone statues and gentle ponds full of koi (Japanese carps). Visit the on-site Kichino-yu (Japanese-style hot spring), a big indoor and outdoor bath surrounded by bamboo, or Fukuno-yu (Chinese-style hot spring,) an outdoor bath created with patterned tiles, rocks and circular shapes. Explore the in-house museum with ancient photographs, paintings and artifacts. Guests of the ryokan have free access to all seven public onsens in the town. Private spa services are also offered at a sister property nearby. Relish a Japanese-style breakfast and tasty kaiseki dinner in your room.
