On this luxury safari in Tanzania, journey into the lesser-visited, pristine southern wilderness in Nyerere and Ruaha. After an overnight stay in Dar Es Salaam, take a short, hour-long flight to the Selous, Africa’s largest protected wildlife reserve. The meandering waterways of this region are home to huge herds of elephants, buffalos, lions, wild dogs and rhinos. You will touch base in Nyerere National Park, formerly the northern part of Selous Game Reserve, where you can enjoy overland and boat safaris as well as bushwalks, over the next three exciting days. You can enjoy this beautiful region at your own pace, enjoying safaris and excursions or simply relaxing and watching some of the wild inhabitants from the waterside or from the safety of your camp! Next on your journey, Ruaha National Park is an excellent destination for uninterrupted wildlife spotting thanks to fewer visitors around the year. This region is where you will find nearly 10% of the world’s remaining lion population, with the park itself deemed a Lion Conservation Unit.

At both Nyerere and Ruaha, you will stay at luxurious safari camps by Asilia Africa – exclusive, private retreats that allow you to be close to nature without sacrificing on comfort and personalized service. Located in a quiet bay off the Indian Ocean coast, Dar es Salaam is the main port in Tanzania and has a bustling harbor. A visit to the daily fish market is a memorable experience! Remnants of British and German colonial presence can still be seen in the landmarks and architecture around the city. The National Museum, the Village Museum, and many colorful markets are well worth a visit. Numerous historical landmarks, including St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the White Father’s Mission House, the Botanical Gardens, and the old State House make for an interesting walking tour around the waterfront and city center.

Discover an untouched gem! A scenic flight to Nyerere National Park (formerly known as Selous Game Reserve) offers a wonderful birds’ eye perspective of the many waterways of one of Africa’s largest protected wildlife reserve, home to roaming elephant populations, wild dogs, and some of the last black rhino. Due to its remote location, Nyerere has remained one of Tanzania’s best parks. You can experience a boating safari along the Rufiji river, whilst a walking safari and fly camping will add a sense of adventure to your African safari. Decide each day whether you prefer an early bush walk or a sumptuous breakfast, a game drive or a romantic sundowner!

Due to its remote location, Ruaha National Park is largely unexplored and a safari here often has the feel of a private, rare adventure. From the moment we first started planning the trip to the moment we got on the plane to go home, we felt so cared for. Our trip coordinator, Cyprian, was the best!!! We always knew what was going on, and he was never more than a call or text away. The game drives were unreal and we got so close to the animals. The food was delicious and the chefs were top notch. The servers at every lodge, who were mostly young men, were so kind and wonderful. All the staff were warm and welcoming. The sun downers were amazing. It’s an unexplainable feeling to watch elephants walking by while sipping on a cocktail. All the guides were so knowledgeable. We always felt safe, secure, and happy. The lodges were in nature, but contained every necessity required to feel luxurious. The experiences, such as visiting and feeding Baraka, the blind rhino, will last a lifetime. This was the most amazing trip ever!
