The Merchant Building is located in Battle Harbour, a town on Battle Island, which is located off the coast of Labrador, Canada. This 200-year-old two-story wooden structure, with a wraparound porch, was originally used as a storehouse and trading post by merchants involved in the fishing industry. It has been carefully restored and still retains its wooden beams and original fixtures. Today, it functions as both a museum, which offers a glimpse into the commercial heart of 19th-century Labrador, and a heritage inn. Spacious and comfortable rooms feature wooden floors, furniture and beds. Artwork on the walls depict scenes from the island. Ensuite bathrooms come with clawfoot tubs. Meals are included, and you can enjoy freshly caught seafood and homemade bread in the dining room. Relax in the lounge bar that also serves as a venue for live music. The building also contains exhibits that depict Battle Harbour’s economic past, including displays of traditional goods and artifacts that were once bartered and sold.
