2 Nights

Stresa (Lake Maggiore)

Stresa is a resort town located on the shores of Lake Maggiore overlooking Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands. The town is known for its stunning views of the lake and the surrounding Alps, as well as its elegant villas. Landmark buildings include Villa Pallavicino, with its gardens and zoo, and Villa Ducale. Novelist Ernest Hemmingway stayed at the historic Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees, and the largest and most expensive suite in the hotel is named after him. Among the main attractions are the Borromean Islands, a group of three small islands called Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori respectively. You can take a boat from the waterfront to visit the islands, which are home to palazzos, villas and the Museum of Dolls and Toys. The gentle climate makes it ideal for a leisurely stroll through town to discover its cafés, restaurants, and shops. Stresa also has a vibrant cultural scene and hosts the annual Stresa Musical Festival. Easily accessible from Milan, it also serves as the gateway to explore the region around Lake Maggiore, including the nearby town of Verbania, the Swiss Border and the Ossola.

Langhe (Piedmont)

Langhe is a picturesque hilly region in Piedmont, northern Italy, that is carpeted with vineyards. It is famous for its wines, cheeses, and truffles. Part of the Langhe is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list for its wine-growing and winemaking traditions that go back centuries. You can take a guided tour of the vineyards or explore the area on foot by following well-marked trails. A number of medieval hill towns and villages dot the region, many with their own castle. The most well known is Barolo village, which gives the wine its name. The eponymous Barolo Castle is home to a wine museum where you can learn about the history of the wine and its production techniques. Nearby you will find the village of Barbaresco, which lends its name to another wine from the region. Do not miss visiting the city of Alba for a meal that includes its famous white truffles.
