Explore this rarely visited National Park right on the outskirts of East Africa’s largest city. Elewana Kifaru House: Group Morning & Evening Game Drives, Bush Walks, and Sundowners

Enjoy sighting elephant herds, endangered rhinos, and other wildlife on game drives and bush walks in Laikipia and Lewa in Kenya. Depart from Elewana Kifaru House on game drives in the early morning or late afternoon when the animals tend to be most active. Your game drive will be as close to private as possible because there are strict limits on the number of vehicles. Keep your eyes peeled for some of the rarest animals on earth, such as Grevy’s zebra and black rhino. Take photos of buffalo and elephants against the backdrop of snow-capped Mt Kenya. Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is both a crowded modern city and a living museum. The city’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, contains an astounding concentration of medieval architectural treasures. To walk down the usually crowded pedestrian street is to walk into the city’s past. Cairo has also preserved much of its architectural and urban heritage from across the ages. Monuments from the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic eras are sprinkled throughout the city. Of course, top of the list are the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx that rise from the desert sands. The Khan Al Khalili market, established in the 14th century, remains a vibrant hub for cultural and economic activity. It’s a great place to discover traditional Egyptian crafts, jewellery and textiles. The Grand Egyptian Museum has a vast collection that includes the Gold Masks of King Tutankhamun. Cairo is also the place to explore the Egyptian’s love of food. Among the highlights are ful medames, a breakfast dish of fava beans, and kushari, considered to be Egypt’s national dish.

Take in the lights of Cairo as you sail down the Nile on a felucca boat. In the evening, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the boarding point. Climb aboard the felucca and make yourself comfortable. This traditional boat is used on the river and its open, narrow design makes it perfect to take in the views. As you sail on the water, your guide will point out interesting landmarks and tell you about their historical and cultural significance. Begin the day with a tour of Giza’s pyramids, constructed about 4,500 years ago. These monumental tombs, erected by pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, were filled with everything each ruler would need to sustain himself in the afterlife. Built in 2560 BC, the UNESCO-listed Great Pyramid is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Then, get up close to the gigantic Sphinx, one of Egypt’s most famous landmarks. It features a lion’s body and a human head adorned with a pharaoh headdress. Next, drive to Memphis, ancient Egypt’s first capital, founded after the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt. In the open-air Mit Rahina Museum, see a colossal statue of Ramesses II and the Alabaster Sphinx, sculpted from a single piece of white gypsum. Luxor stands by the Nile River at the ancient site of Thebes, which was the capital city of the great pharaohs of Egypt. The massive scale and grandeur of the city has to be experienced first-hand. The famous Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens with their royal tombs are spread across the Nile from Luxor. The ancient hieroglyphs and vibrant paintings decorating the royal tomb of Ramses VI, for instance, is an unbelievable sight. The city itself is home to quite a few ancient temples and monuments of historical and archeological importance, such as the Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple. Although the entire city is nothing short of an open-air museum, the Luxor Museum with its priceless displays is definitely worth a visit. The Tombs of the Nobles, with over 400 tombs of high-ranking families from the Graeco-Roman period, are renowned for their detailed depictions from the Book of the Dead and frescos of daily lives.

“From the advice we got from Peter when we booked our trip to the excellent execution of the details that Cyprian did, there was not a hitch. We were met by professionals who ushered us through customs and checked us into our flights. The itinerary was packed with memorable experiences of seeing animals, getting to know the people at the tent camps who were more attentive than we could have imagined. The tents were exceptionally clean, beds comfortable, the food outstanding and our overall experience was beyond our expectations. “The trip was planned perfectly from beginning to the end. We were notified of any changes to the schedule based on delayed flights etc. It is a real advantage to have Enchanting Travels make the arrangements that allowed us to speed through customs and visa checks. Our drivers were always there waiting for our arrival so no time wasted waiting. Just the ease of the logistics that comes with traveling with Enchanting Travels keeps up going back to them when we are planning a trip. The experiences were beyond words. Our game drive guides were exceptional in getting us to where the animals were so we could enjoy seeing cheetah cubs at play while mom watched, lion cubs playing while a group of lioness’s napped in the sun and two male lions did the same. The most incredible sight was watching a group of 6 lioness’s separate a female buffalo and her calf and going on to taking them both down. It was like watching a Nat Geo film but we were there within 30 yards to watch. Our accommodations were top notch, staff everywhere we were were exceptional, and the settings were all different but wonderful. Our trip coordinator was in constant contact just to check in and see if there was anything we needed her to do. The Trip Agent App, our first time using it, was a very nice feature and was so much easier to use rather than pulling out a hard copy of the trip to find the answer to our questions. I wasn’t sure if I would use it or not but became dependent on it. Traveling doesn’t get any better if you travel with Enchanting Travels. We will be back!”

“Enchanting exceeded our expectations by a wide margin. They built the itinerary that was perfect for us and were with us throughout the entire trip checking in on us and handling any issues that could possibly arise (like a delayed flight that had a trickle effect). The staff were all over and above attentive and caring. The app they have you use is surprisingly excellent and helpful. Can’t say enough about this travel company. It’s the way to go.”
