Spend some downtime! As the largest city of East Africa, you can experience contemporary urban African life in Nairobi with colorful street markets, authentic African cuisine, and a buzzing nightlife. Discover the National Museum or explore Kenya’s historic roots with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. Feed giraffes in the Giraffe Center or get very close to baby elephants and cheetah in the David Sheldrick Center and animal orphanage. On Nairobi’s doorstep, enjoy afternoon walks and spectacular sundowners in the Ngong Hills, or head to Nairobi National Park for the the only place in the world to witness wild lions against the backdrop of skyscrapers.

Drive to Samburu (7-8 hrs)

Samburu

A place of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers! Samburu National Reserve lies on the fringes of the vast, arid desert, once known as the Northern Frontier District. It’s a great place to witness large herds of elephant, who roam the hills during the day before returning to bathe on the riverbanks in the evening. Samburu National Reserve also provides one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya for the rare northern specialist species such as the endangered Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. Enjoy wonderful game drives and, outside the national reserve, walking safaris and visits to remote villages of the Samburu people.

Soroi Samburu Lodge: Morning & Evening Game Drives

Get up close with the wildlife at Samburu National Reserve while staying at Soroi Samburu Lodge. Head out on early morning and late afternoon game drives, accompanied by an expert guide. Travel deep into the wilderness where the Koitogor and Ololokwe Mountains make for a breathtaking backdrop. Stop at viewpoints from where you could see elephants, lions and zebras in their natural habitat. Your guide will tell you about the animals’ distinctive characteristics and behavior. If you are out in the evening, you could catch a beautiful sunset. After driving around the rugged terrain for a couple of hours and spotting a variety of wildlife and birdlife, return to the lodge. Soroi Larsens Camp: Morning and Evening game drives

Experience the natural beauty of Kenya during game drives through the Samburu Game Reserve. While staying at Soroi Larsens Camp, head out on game drives in the morning or evening, to spot wildlife. Climb into one of the reserve’s 4X4 vehicles, driven by a safari guide, and head deep into the untouched reserve. Experience a thrilling ride across varied terrain, while your guide points out interesting plants, trees and fauna. You may see unusual animals including the rare Grevy’s zebra, the Gerenuk antelope, Somali ostriches as well as hippos, elephants, waterbuck, and a variety of birds. Take in the stunning views of the serene reserve before heading back to camp. Please note that if you have your own vehicle, an expert guide will drive you on a personalized game drive. Drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy (3-4 hrs)

Laikipia – Ol Pejeta/Solio

Ol Pejeta is a private wildlife conservancy, situated between the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya, and has one of the highest density of wildlife in Kenya and boasts an astounding variety of animals, including the “Big Five“. It offers very diverse safari activities, with day and night game drives, guided bush walks and camel riding safaris across its game-rich plains. The neighboring chimpanzee sanctuary is worth a visit for those who have an interest in our closest relatives. Ol Pejeta is also a good base for exploring the Aberdares, Mt Kenya and Solio Game Reserve. Solio is a private wildlife conservancy, situated between the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya, and home to over 70 Black and more than 150 White Rhino, as well as buffalo, zebra, giraffe and plains game such as Eland, Oryx, impala, waterbuck, gazelle and warthog.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp: Morning & Evening game drives

Experience the thrill of getting up-close with nature and wildlife. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary to catch these highly endangered mammals thrive in their local habitat. You could also drop by the Endangered Species Enclosure and bond with a baby rhino, while acquainting yourself with the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos. Evoke all your natural faculties as you learn how to track lions in the wild.

Ilkeliani Camp: Morning & Evening game drives

Rise and shine early to explore the wild surroundings of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. In tow with your expert Maasai guides and reaching via a suspension bridge, hop on a 4×4 to experience morning game drives. At the Mara river and the Musiara Marsh, see a high concentration of elephants, zebras, buffaloes, hippopotamuses, and the world-famous Marsh Pride of Lions. Listening to wildlife stories of the region, settle down for a leisurely picnic breakfast and watch the herds of game go by. Follow the resident naturalist and set out for nature walks along the Talek River. Spot myriad birdlife and track animals in the vicinity by footprints, as you traverse the native vegetation of these riverine forests.
