Stockholm

Built across 14 islands where Lake Malaren meets the Baltic Sea, Stockholm has served as Sweden’s capital since the 13th century. The city, with its gorgeous landscape and waterfront promenades, features a contrasting skyline of royal monuments and contemporary design. Gamla Stan, the old town, anchors the city’s historic core. Its narrow streets are lined with amber and ochre facades, leading to the Royal Palace, one of Europe’s largest working royal residences. Across the water, the Vasa Museum preserves a 17th-century warship salvaged intact from the harbor floor. Summer stretches the day to nearly 18 hours of light, leaving time to board a ferry and trace the Stockholm Archipelago, where you will see forested islands and open water in every direction. Back in the city, ABBA The Museum captures a defining chapter of Swedish pop culture, while the neighborhoods surrounding it pulse with Nordic fashion and design. There is also the famed Nobel Prize Museum, and the 68 miles of the subway network that showcases art and sculptures making it the ‘World’s longest art exhibit’.

Harads

Harads is a village of roughly 500 residents in Boden Municipality, Swedish Lapland, resting along the Lule River valley, just south of the Arctic Circle. Historically shaped by agriculture, forestry and salmon fishing, this quiet settlement has transformed into a recognized destination for conscious travel and architectural innovation. The vast boreal forest, with its ancient spruce and pine trees and magnificent Lule River, has a landscape that shifts dramatically with the seasons. In winter, the aurora borealis paints the sky. In summer, the Midnight Sun stretches the day, opening long hours for hiking and kayaking through the surrounding wilderness. The white-water rapids of Storforsen thunder nearby, and Sami cultural traditions offer insight into the region’s indigenous heritage. What draws travelers from across the world is the architecture. Avant-garde treehouses suspended in the forest canopy and a wellness spa floating directly on the river have made Harads a destination unlike any other. In winter, plan guided snowmobile, dog sledding, or snowshoe excursions. Summer is perfect for kayaking down the river and foraging in the surrounding forest.
