Suspended among the pines of Swedish Lapland, Treehotel turns the forest into an architectural gallery, with a collection of individually designed treerooms created by leading Scandinavian architects and studios.
What Makes It Special
Floating on the Lule River in summer and frozen into the ice in winter, Arctic Bath is one of Swedish Lapland’s most distinctive architectural retreats. Inspired by the region’s historic timber-floating tradition, its striking circular spa and surrounding cabins create an immersive experience where Scandinavian design and the Arctic landscape become inseparable.
Details
Arctic Bath sits on the Lule River in Harads, Swedish Lapland, surrounded by birch forest. Winter brings snow-covered landscapes and the possibility of Northern Lights, while summer transforms the setting beneath the Midnight Sun. The village of Harads is about a 10- to 15-minute walk away.
The intimate property has just 12 cabins, divided between those floating on the river and those set among the surrounding vegetation. Natural wood and stone, expansive glazing and thoughtfully positioned decks blur the boundary between indoors and out, keeping the river and forest constantly in view.
At the heart of Arctic Bath is its circular floating spa, inspired by the log jams that once gathered along northern rivers. The experience centers on Sweden’s sauna and cold-bathing traditions, with two dry saunas, a steam sauna, two outdoor Jacuzzis and the river’s cold bath complemented by spa rituals and treatments.
The floating restaurant continues the connection to the region, serving dishes built around local, seasonal ingredients and the flavors of Norrbotten. Wild and foraged produce feature prominently, with contemporary techniques bringing a refined expression to the cuisine. A lounge and bar provide a relaxed setting for drinks between meals or after time in the spa.
