Stresa is a resort town located on the shores of Lake Maggiore overlooking Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands. The town is known for its stunning views of the lake and the surrounding Alps, as well as its elegant villas. Landmark buildings include Villa Pallavicino, with its gardens and zoo, and Villa Ducale. Novelist Ernest Hemmingway stayed at the historic Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees, and the largest and most expensive suite in the hotel is named after him. Among the main attractions are the Borromean Islands, a group of three small islands called Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori respectively. You can take a boat from the waterfront to visit the islands, which are home to palazzos, villas and the Museum of Dolls and Toys.
