Corner Brook can be found on the west coast of Newfoundland, at the mouth of the Humber River. It is the administrative headquarters of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nations band government. The area was first surveyed by explorer Captain James Cook in the mid-1700s, an event commemorated by the Captain James Cook Monument. It is home to Grenfell Campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland, which houses the Grenfell Art Gallery. The Marble Mountain Ski Resort receives around 16 feet of snowfall every year, and the city hosted the 2016 Special Olympic Winter Games. In addition, there are close to 800 miles of snowmobile trails to explore in the winter.
