Virunga Lodge is a luxury safari lodge set on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the Virunga volcanoes and the Lakes Ruhondo and Bulera. The lodge is around three hours drive from Kigali, an hour from the Uganda border and around an hour from the start of the gorilla trekking activities in Parc National des Volcans. The 8 large, en-suite bandas are comfortably and luxuriously furnished with an African touch. Each one has its own veranda which, like the lounge, bar and dining room, enjoys great views of the valley with the lakes or volcanoes in the distance. The open fire places in the lounge and dining room are a warm welcome after a day out trekking the mountain gorillas and viewing the surrounding scenery. This charming and exclusive lodge ensures a peaceful and serene getaway. Aside from gorilla trekking, you can climb a volcano, go golden monkey trekking, see Dian Fossey’s grave, visit a local school or local community projects, hike to the waterfalls or go for strolls around the picturesque villages near the lakes.
